Chosun Ok

Dear Friends and Family,

Got the recommendation for Chosun Ok from The Blissful Glutton. We passed a bunch of newer restaurants on the way. Koreans love to eat out.

We ordered the kalbi (marinated short ribs), the sam gyup sal (uncured pork belly), the mandoo (steamed dumplings) and the pajun (seafood scallion pancake). The kalbi was tender with a good marinade. We grilled it over the live coals which adds to the flavor considerably. The sam gyup sal was cut thicker than we usually have it making is a little harder to appreciate the pork flavor and texture. The dumplings were excellent. We should have ordered two batches of those. I could have finished one all by myself. And, the pajun, well constructed, but needed more seafood.

In summary, the kalbi and the dumplings were winners. The pork belly and the pajun were standard dishes.

Overall rating: 7/10
